Thank you to those that attended our second round of planning meetings in Pacific City last week. Several people came to see OPRD present results of park assessments and draft concept alternatives for Sitka Sedge State Natural Area. If you weren’t able to attend we look forward to seeing you in Wilsonville next week or at the Tierra Del Mar neighborhood association meeting in February. We will be posting meeting summaries on this page as they are finalized.

If you did not have a chance to attend the meeting we will be collecting comments on the park assessments and proposed park design until March 1, 2016. We have made it easy for your to comment in several ways:

Below are some questions we asked at the public meeting we hope you’d consider answering using the Mapping Tool or in a comment at the bottom of this page:

  1. What do you think of the proposed park design?
  2. Do you have any ideas for naming trails, viewing areas or other park features?
  3. What is your favorite aspect of this site – for example, if there was one thing you wanted future visitors to see or know about this site before they leave it would be…

We also had a survey available at the meetings addressing visitor needs for park interpretation and education at Sitka Sedge. We have made this survey available online at this link:

Sitka Sedge SNA Visitor Experience Survey

To stay up date on the master planning process for this State Natural Area, please sign up at the mailing list on the right side of the page. We will be posting details on the next round of meetings on this site in the coming weeks.

We’ve considered several options to name the park, weighing names that reflect past owners, politicians, and landscape features. After thinking about what we hope the park will become – a beautiful,  natural place that offers a low-key, intimate connection to south Tillamook County – we decided to go with a name that will introduce people to a relatively unknown native plant: Sitka Sedge State Natural Area.

Sitka sedge is a beautiful native grass found in pockets throughout the property, and we think it’s a perfect fit for this new park: graceful, ecologically important, and native. There are some good photos of Sitka sedge online at http://bit.ly/sitkasedge. We will be taking this recommendation to our commission at their next meeting on November 18 in Hood River. If you’d like to share what you think about it, you can send an email to oprd.publiccomment@oregon.gov or comment directly on this page below.

Concept alternatives present different visions for the park and help us consider the specific opportunities and challenges. Public engagement and discussion at this meeting is especially important to the success of the planning effort.

A huge thank you to all that turned out for our first round of meetings in Tierra Del Mar and Pacific City. Beltz Public Meeting I Summary (PDF)

If you did not have a chance to attend the meetings we will be collecting comments until September 30th so please comment in the space below or on the Beltz Property survey page. We appreciate all of those utilizing the survey map to make comments about how they’d like to see the trails improved or in regards to park development. These comments are guiding concept alternatives we will be presenting at the next round of public meetings. Please click the image above to download the slides we presented at the meetings.

We look forward to continuing the conversation initiated at the first round of meetings and will be posting details on the next round of meetings in the coming weeks as soon as they are scheduled.

Comment on Two New Beltz Planning Surveys

OPRD has created two online surveys to allow the public to make comments on the master plan for this new state park:

Beltz Web Tool

Online Mapping Tool

The Online Mapping Tool provides a place for you to comment directly on a map of the park’s existing conditions. Do you have ideas about new park features you’d like to see or an area of the park that would benefit from restoration? This tool allows you to locate your idea on the map with a pinned comment. As comments are made they will be visible to others reading the map, creating an ‘online open house’ where anyone can share their vision for the park.

Please note the map does not currently work on mobile devices.

Beltz Survey

Beltz Property Master Plan Survey

In addition to the Online Mapping Tool, we have posted an online version of the paper survey we’re asking folks to fill out at our current round of public meetings, so if you’re unable to make the meetings you can still have an opportunity to voice your opinions. Please share your thoughts on the benefits this beautiful place provides or what you might like to see there in the future.

As you answer the questions in the survey you might consider using the mapping tool to identify locations referenced in your answers.

We hope you find these tools useful and easy to use. We are looking forward to seeing your comments. The information we gather will supplement comments made at our August Public Meetings and your input will directly impact concept alternatives that will be presented at public meetings in November, so please fill out these surveys and comment on the map by September 30, 2015.

If you are having any issues with the maps or survey please contact us or comment directly on this post below.
